The trend of Japanese fireworks industry

On the website of Japan Pyrotechnics Association, 127 companies are registered as fireworks factory at early July, 2020. By prefecture, Nagano has the most factories, next, Aichi, Akita, Saitama, Ibaraki, Shizuoka have many them. Because, they have historical backgrounds from Edo Period (1603-), and these regions have large-scale fireworks festivals now.
The graph indicates the transition of the number of fireworks factories, the value of shipments and added value. Fireworks factory means that has more than 4 workers in this graph. Added value means the value produced by business activity, it is mostly the same meaning of benefit. The number of fireworks factories guradulally decreased, the value of shipments guradually increased, added value guradually decreased.
The export quantities from Japan is increased, but imports exceed exports. The rate of imports value for the value of shipments is 10-20 percent, guradually decreased. The most of fireworks manufacutured in Japan is consumed in Japan, and additionally imported fireworks are consumed.
The unit price of export fireworks from Japan is about 19.15($/lb) in 2019. The unit price to Thailand, Singapore, Saudi Arabia is high in export destination country. About the unit price of import fireworks into Japan, fireworks for toys is 2.04($/lb), fireworks for launch is 5.16($/lb). Chinese fireworks oppupy the major part of imports into Japan, the unit price of that is 2.02($/lb) and 3.16($/lb) respectively, they are most economic. The unit price of fireworks imported from U.S. is 69.95($/lb), this is more expensive than the unit price of exports from Japan.
